My Father's World Kindergarten M is for Moon unit.

M is for Moon

Mm is for moon

Here is our moon unit texture box!  I ordered this set from Amazon.com.  It's called the Lunar Rover with Astronauts playset. It is no longer available, but there are other sets similar.  I looked up how to make moon sand.  It was a great texture, but to add color to make it look more real, I added black sand.

Here is little K enjoying playing with it!
Here is J using a game I made.  "Sort the moons". I had gotten these foam moons, which have three sizes, over the summer. I think it was Yankee one dollar, but it could have been any dollar store!  Then I created a sheet on Microsoft word with three columns, small, medium and large. I used a small font size for small, medium for medium and large for large. I then placed in a sheet protector. Here while he is doing that, K is using a "salt box".  It's just a plastic pencil box filled with salt and an un-sharpened pencil.  Then I placed these letter cards next to the salt box. Choose a card, write the letter, erase, move on!

Phases of the moon craft. I cut out the phase ahead of time and made a sample book. I also some Monterssori printable 3 part cards on phases of the moon.  Here is one blog I visited, but it's not the one I got the cards from.
http://livingmontessorinow.com/2012/07/16/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-moon-unit.  I believe this is where I printed them from: http://www.montessorimom.com/astronomy-printouts
Here are two activities I put out.  The one on the left is another from hubbardscupboard.org. Sorting upper and lower case letter M's.  The little dish holding the letters is from a mini pie :) When I originally printed out these letters if was for a preschool activity.  To make it more challenging I have since printed all letter m's in black and white.    The items on the right is a worksheet I found online. It looked fun, the M's are colorful and dashed for tracing.  I added a couple of fun colored markers for tracing.

This is a name craft idea I found someplace. Rocketship names!  For K, I wrote her letters on each card.  Then I also wrote them on the big sheet, so she just had to match and glue.

For J, he has a card with his name written on it.  He used that to copy the letters of his name onto his cards.  Then he glued them on in order.

Here is J's finished Rocket ship name!  I thought it was cute he wrote his name on it too! Without looking at his name card, this is how he writes his name.  (*update: he quickly learned to write his full name. :)'
Here, J and K are working on the first drawer/box of the day.. calendar and morning board sheets.  Also, to the right of J is his 100 chart page.

Wikki stix fun!

Here J is almost done with his "s" and "m" wikki stix alpha better letters, found here: http://www.pre-kpages.com/alphabet

Here they are decorating a big number two. The printable in between them is found here: http://mamasmonkeys.blogspot.com/p/mfw-kindergarten.html.  Also found in the files section on the MFW K Facebook page in the files section.  I also printed out her letters sheet.
Here is an activity sorting Mm's and not Mm's. This is another from hubbardscupboard. Then to the left in the top corner, J's worksheet form MFW K.  I like to choose an activity that "introduces" the worksheet for the day.  In this case on the sheet he will be circling the /m/ pictures.  He also likes to cross out the pictures that don't begin with /m/.  In this picture you can also see J's name tag and a number chart.  (*update, I have since made a file folder "mini office" for him with a number chart, alphabet chart, color words and a small "chart" to show b and d, he confuses them.)

Sorting /m/ objects and non /m/ objects.
All sorted!  :) Those two trucks.. believe it or not.... were my oldest sons! They are Bob the Builder's Muck and Scoop!  :)
Here is the sheet all finished. :) We like to use markers a lot right now!

Sorting "s" and "m" picture cards. He's not always so into coloring, hence the reason for the once color pictures!

Here I found a printable of a blank rocketship.  I printed it out on card stock, then set a tray with an assortment of things (to the left of J) to decorate the rocket.  These came out so nicely and they enjoyed it so much.  This activity caught the eyes of big sister A who decided to do one too!.

Here are the finished rockets! The one on the bottom left is K's, the top middle is J's and the bottom right is A's.  :)

We also made a rocket ship out of boxes.. we used big ones this way the kiddos could play in it too. We of course had to paint our rocket ship pieces first!
Here is J carefully painting his part of the ship.  They each got a piece and shared to top.
Here is K painting hers. Thankfully our floors are old and need replacing! Although the paint did wash off in the end.. off the floor.. and....

...... it also washed off of K and her shirt!  :) It's hard work painting a rocket ship!

Time to go outside and enjoy playing in our rocket ship.  It was very hard to wait for that paint to dry! I think it took until the next day.. and later in the day!

Some outside school time :) and making silly faces.

A little PE.  ;)

Time to make moon cake!
Here is K adding an ingredient... very carefully... J is waiting patiently.

and now.. it's his turn!

... adding the last of the ingredients....

Just about ready to put in the over to bake..will it taste yummy?  (it did :) )

Science experiment time... vinegar and baking soda.. they loved this one!
Dot painting letter M! This is a printable from here: http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2012/12/a-z-do-a-dot-worksheets.html.  She has a lot of great alphabet activities that are free printables. You can also purchase her letter of the week curriculum. I didn't, but I have used many of the activities.

Here J is using something else I know I printed off of confessionsofahomeschooler, but I couldn't find it.  I'll try again and if I find it I'll put it on here.  You build the letter with the pieces. The pieces are just foam I cut out. There is a template page to make the individual pieces. Then the cards are printed separately.  I made a green set and a pink set.
Here is a close up of the letters J completed.

Working on another letter.. letter M!  :)

and K using the wikki stix alphabet cards.  :)

What a week! Enjoying our units very much so far!

My Father's World Kindergarten S is for Sun and space unit

S is for Sun

S is for SUN! Here was a box I filled with S things! So they children could see that there are so many things beginning with /s/.  I of course put in several letter "s" in different sizes and textures.  I had a couple of words from this thing I had so I put them in too.

Here are some pictures of our workboxes for the day.
The first box is our calendar/weather page. The next box letter "s" and wikki stix.
Here showing boxes 3 and 4.  3 is a worksheet from MFW.  Color the /s/ pictures. The next box is part of the math lesson in the next box.  Sorting objects that are the same or different. The book is the Singapore Kindergarten Essentials A workbook. J loved this book! Actually so did K!

Here are boxes 5 and 6.  5 is the Kindergarten Essentials workbook and some crayons for doing the worksheet.  Box 6 was a planet memory match type of game.

Had to throw this picture in.  This was from our first day of Kindergarten.. I took about 5 or 6 of him, he was in such a goofy mood.  :)
Here is J coloring in his /s/ pictures.
Here is K playing with a "game" I created.  Matching /s/ items.

This is a close up of the game.

TH
This was another math activity/lesson from the Singapore Kindergarten Essentials A.  I had these items all mixed up in his workbox.  He had to sort by color for this one.
This is a picture of our grapes for the raisin experiment.  This was interesting because I left them on the window sill. It took a very long time. It would have worked much better doing this outside. The second time around with Kindergarten I will set them up outside some place.  I was concerned about ants.

Here is K gluing her pieces of sun down.

J working on gluing his sun pieces down.
J's finished sun! He enjoyed this activity!
This is a picture he drew for day one of the grapes.
Here is K's finished sun! :)
Cuisinaire Rod day for letter S.  Both of them working hard to build their pictures.
Here is J carefully placing his rods to make an "s".
K busy building with hers.

Here is J the day we made our badge.  He was off on a road trip with daddy.  I thought it would be more fun for them if  they could wear their badges around their necks.  :) I also hung a badge on the wall, but not in necklace form.

Using glitter watercolor paints! I thought this would be fun with our S and M units.  They look really nice when done and they do sparkle!

                                                              Good bye sun unit....
